Dan Kainen
The Motion
Picture Card is the third patent in the field of integrated
imaging from artist, designer, and inventor, Dan Kainen.
After getting his BFA in painting from
Pratt Institute, Dan started his design career creating fabric
silk-screen designs for clients such as Calvin Klein from his studio in
Greenwich Village. During the second half of the ‘70’s he created laser
light shows and art pieces for clubs and rock bands, including a laser
sculpture for New York, New York Discotheque, and for performance
artists such as Sharon Wybrants. To further his technological expertise,
he worked as an applications engineer doing precision motion control,
electro-optics and laser-optical systems for an aerospace subcontracting
company, and then, in the early 80’s, wanting to get back to the design
world, he set up a lighting design business using his increased
technical knowledge to create innovative lighting fixtures. He continued
with lighting design, fabrication and consultation for commercial,
residential and architectural applications and is especially well known
for his restaurant lighting in New York.
His experiments with integrated imaging
began in 1994. Since then he has been studying integrated photography,
both film and digital, to create both 3D and animated images, advancing
the state of the art.
Dan also draws, writes songs,
and travels to see art, architecture, and natural wonders. |
